The Jackson + Josephine Counties Cooperative Weed Management Area (JaJo CWMA) is a network of individuals, agencies, and organizations concerned with rural and urban invasive weeds issues in Jackson County and Josephine County, Oregon. The JaJo CWMA has come together to increase communication and cooperation, and to facilitate efforts across all landownership types to effectively control weeds in the two counties. Since 2024, the JaJo CWMA has been housed under the Rogue Valley Council of Governments’ Natural Resources Department. The mission of RVCOG’s Natural Resources Department is to:
“Work with communities and partners in the Rogue Basin to conserve and enhance the health of our watersheds by facilitating the development and implementation of regional strategies, and by providing technical and educational assistance. We seek to achieve a balance between economic well-being and healthy natural systems.”
CWMAs are committed to cooperation, and operate under a comprehensive plan that addresses the management or prevention of one or more noxious weeds or invasive plants. CWMAs can help coordinate efforts led by agencies and organizations involved in actively managing invasive plants. It enables us to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of management activities, manage across jurisdictions, pool available resources, and prioritize issues. Partnerships
A cooperative weed management area (CWMA) is a partnership of federal, state, and local government agencies, tribes, individuals, and various interested groups that manage noxious weeds or invasive plants in a defined area.
Managing noxious and invasive weeds can be an intimidating task. Weeds ignore political and property boundaries, and when left unchecked can spread from neighbor to neighbor and onto our public lands. The complex mosaic of public and private land ownership in the Rogue Basin requires collaboration and strong partnerships. Here in the Rogue, we are fortunate to have strong partnerships in place to facilitate effective weed control.
